What Do Sunglasses Help Prevent?

Do not forget the sole purpose of the sunglasses. It is not a problem if some of us only purchase and wear sunglasses for fashion. However, regardless of your intention in owning the sunglasses, do not compromise on the main purpose of the sunglasses.

Sunglasses are made to protect our eyes from the harmful ultraviolet (UV) light. Therefore, whenever you are looking for a pair of sunglasses, go for the one that offers UV protection. Some of us might not take a better precaution towards UV light due to the fact that the Sun is located farther away from the Earth. This is a very dangerous belief as the UV light is capable of making your eyes blind.

One of the diseases that can cause blindness is cataract. Cataract is said to happen when the eyes are exposed to UV light for a long duration. It is a disease that will make your vision blurry. This is caused by the formation of clouds on the eye lenses. Usually cataract is associated with the aged people however research has proved that cataract may also develop in your people due to over exposure to the UV light.

Other than cataract, excessive UV exposure may also result in a disease called photokeratitis. This disease literally translated to “burnt eyes”. This situation indicates that the cornea, which is the transparent layer in front of the eyeballs, was burnt by the UV light.

Besides that, overexposure to UV light can also result in another disease called pterygium. This phenomenon is said to happen when there is tissue growth that blocks the cornea.

In conclusion, always remember to prevent your eyes from UV exposure by wearing a proper pair of sunglasses. Do not compromise on the health of your eyes too much even if you are going for a stylish pair of sunglasses
