Since the day people sport sunglasses to convey their sense of style and fashion, this is the sole reason why they buy several pairs. Recently, it has been a fact that there are a lot of individuals who wear glasses mainly for fashion. On the other hand, there are some individuals who love to wear expensive glasses because these make them appear trendy and glamorous. They forget altogether that their eyewear has purposes and benefits which are far greater than having a sense of fashion. When they look for sunglasses in boutiques or stores, they forget that glasses are created to protect the eyes from the sun's harmful UV rays. There is no harm in regarding sunglasses as fashion statements. However, you should not forget what these are for. When you search for the perfect pair, you should always consider glasses which have UV protection.

Even if the sun is over 90 million farther away from the Earth, you have to remember that too much exposure to its rays can still be harmful. When you are always exposed to the heat of the sun, you are risking your health. Prolonged exposure to the sun's ultraviolet rays has been related to several types of eye problems. Among these is cataract. This is a condition wherein one or both of your eye lens get clouded over. Your eye lens will turn opaque, stopping them from transmitting light rays to your retina. This means that the image that you will see is blurred. Cataracts also alter the structure of your eye lens. It has been a fact that only older people acquire cataract. Another eye condition that develops when the eyes are over exposed to the sun's heat is photokeratitis. This is described as “burning of your eyes' cornea due to the sun's UVB rays”. The cornea is the clear surface in front of the eyes. This is also regarded as snow blindness, occurring at high altitudes of extremely reflective snow. When you like to ski a lot and you do not wear safety goggles, you are more prone of developing this condition.

Still another condition that might affect your eyes when you go out without wearing sunglasses is pterygium. This is an eye problem which brings about conjunctiva tissue growth over the cornea's surface. This is due to the long-term vulnerability of the eyes to sunlight.

Other than the connection of eye problems to too much sun exposure, studies have also indicated that when you wear sunglasses regularly, you will be able to minimize the development of cataracts or other eye conditions. This goes especially when you opt for those pairs which have UV protection. With the information that you have have gotten, you now know the great importance of wearing protection for your eyes.
